The South Bank Colleges Management and Leadership Development Programme for Black staff is fully committed to using ‘Positive Action’ as the College has clearly and unambiguously proven, through existing local and national data, that Black staff are indeed underrepresented in management posts. The overall aim of the programme is to build capability, confidence and knowledge. Additionally, delegates will develop resilience and confidence as well as gain the skills to network. Furthermore, the Association of Colleges, (AoC) is committed to addressing the underrepresentation of Black and Minority staff in management posts in the Further Education sector. “At the Association of Colleges we take equality, diversity and inclusion seriously.

We are acutely aware of the inequalities within the FE sector, and the need for more urgent, concerted work to ensure an inclusive environment, better diversity and equality of opportunity is embedded throughout all we do. Our ambition for a fairer society in line with our values in which everyone can succeed will only be achieved with a continued effort towards increasing the diversity of leadership and governance, creating an inclusive, open and diverse culture which supports students and staff and actively promoting fairness and respect across the sector”. In order to achieve this vision of promoting fairness and increasing the diversity of leadership across the Sector the AoC has initiated an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Steering Group, formed in May 2019 and is made up of leaders from Association of Colleges (AoC) membership, and more recently representatives from Holex (the professional body for Adult Community Education and Learning), Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP), World Skills, with agreed regular attendance from ETF and specialists with particular areas of expertise regarding EDI, to provide a forum which can drive policy and practice for the FE sector.

During the ceremony, members of staff were awarded their certificates, members of staff included:

Mohammed Bryce - Level 3

Felix Outa - Level 5

Sharon Carnegie - Level 7
