Building Chartered Surveyor, Carrie Guy, from Construction Consultancy firm, Lysander, spoke to our Electrical Engineering students about her job and careers in construction.

Carrie had studied HNC in construction at college, while working full time as a bridge technician, before taking a Building Surveying degree at University.

Once she had graduated, she started working full time as a Graduate surveyor. She highlighted that other careers in construction had similar career structure and routes, so sharing her experience was very valuable to our students. Electrical and Engineering students commented: -

‘The session was very informative and it was very useful to get a viewpoint from someone who is in construction industry. I also liked to be reassured that there are internships and apprenticeships available for students studying BTEC engineering.’

‘It was nice to be aware of different career pathways.  Even if, I am really interested in electronic engineering and designing new technologies and I am less focused on construction it was good to learn about it.’
