Is this course for you?

If your goal is to become an electrical engineer or to work in the engineering industry in general, either by securing an apprenticeship or by progressing on to further qualifications at college, then this course is the ideal starting point for you to start your career journey.

The Level 1 Certificate in Electronic Engineering will provide you with hands-on practical training in a number of essential skills and techniques, and will also develop your knowledge of health and safety, and give you an insight into what life in the engineering sector is really like.

You will be taught about the safe and correct way to carry out electronics assembly, electrical assembly, how to recognise and use safe working practices, consideration of the environment, and working effectively as a part of a team. You will also develop knowledge of the basic materials and technology that you will use as an engineer use in your everyday work.

No matter what your engineering or manufacturing career goals are, this course will give you the basics you need to achieve them.

All 16-18 years old who do not have min GCSE grade 4 or Level 2 Functional skills in both English and maths will be required to study English and maths alongside their vocational qualification. Additionally you will be required to complete min 45 hours of work experience.

    Additional Information: You will have an initial assessment in English and maths.

    You will be assessed by a combination of practical assessments, course work, and online exams.

    This course could lead to an apprenticeship in the electrotechnical or engineering industries, or provide the opportunity for further study and training.

    After successfully passing the Level 1 Certificate in Electronic Engineering, you may wish to consider progressing to one of the following Level 2 courses:

    • Level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering (BTEC)
    • Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation (City and Guilds)
    • Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance Operations (City and Guilds)
