Is this course for you?

The Higher Development Award programme is designed to help personal development for clinical and non-clinical support staff to progress their careers or remain in their current role. This is a free programme that has been designed to meet the ever-growing needs of complex Health & Social care systems and to enable the Healthcare Support Worker to respond with an understanding of leadership, decision making and problem solving.

These qualifications are designed for healthcare assistants, support workers and non-clinical staff; usually working in band 2-4 roles. 

 

We are pleased to be able to hold enrolment events for these programmes, all applicants for Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 will be allocated a time slot to attend and be assessed for Functional Skills, unless proof of qualification is supplied.

The programme offers qualification in

  • Level 1 Pathway to Higher Development Award
  • ILM Level 2 in Team Leading + Functional Skills English and/or maths at Level 1 or Level 2
  • ILM Level 3 in Leadership and Management

What will you gain

  • Qualification equivalent to 14 credits (Level 2) or 17 credits (Level 3)
  • Increased confidence and ability, with a deeper awareness of decision making, as well as increased understanding of your part within in the wider Healthcare system regardless of your work base.
  • Improved patient/client/service user outcomes due to increased knowledge base, whilst understanding limitations.
  • Ability to demonstrate study skills in order to progress, or to remain in your current role, improving your skills and knowledge.

  • Functional Skills English and/or maths at Level  2

Modules you will study at Level 3

  • Understanding leadership
  • Team dynamics
  • Advanced communication
  • Developing self and others
  • Problem solving, planning and implementing change
  • Presentation skills
  • Motivational interviewing

  • What does it entail?

    • Attendance at 6 study days (100% attendance required)
    • Self-directed study to complete Functional Skills and ILM assignments
    • Completion of all modules and assignments to achieve all parts of the award

  • Entry Criteria

    Applicants must hold Functional Skills qualification or be willing to complete a functional skills qualification.

    The appropriate level for your course will be dependent on the outcome of your initial Functional Skills Assessment.

    Must be 19+

  • Eligibility

    Passport or any document to show your residency status if you are not a British citizen or have not lived in the UK for 3 years.

  • Do I have to pay for the course?

    There are no course fees attached to this course, this is provided free of charge as long as you meet our eligibility and entry criteria.
