The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design will provide you with the opportunity to explore the materials, methods and processes that support art and design activities.

This course is designed to develop the knowledge, technical skills, and understanding you will need in order to progress to further study and qualifications, or prepare you for a rewarding career in a number of creative roles.

Through practical learning and immersive study, you will engage with a variety of creative techniques including 2D and 3D and time-based practices. As well as developing your creativity, expression and artistic skills, you will also gain a deeper understanding of the theories and principles of art and design, including research methodology, expression of thought, justification of concept, and evaluation of product.

Throughout the year you will be taught through assessed projects. The year ends with a final unit, which will requires students to demonstrate the ability to use knowledge, skills and understanding to successfully complete a project that involves greater self-direction in preparation for study at a more advanced level.

This course will provide you with opportunities to develop and use broad, transferable skills through an ethos of personal and professional development. Specifically it will allow you to demonstrate: initiative, independent enquiry, creative thinking, reflective learning, team-working, self-management, effective participation, problem solving and communication skills.

  • What do you need to apply?
    • A UAL or equivalent Level 1 qualification or;
    • Three GCSEs at grade D or grade 3
    • An equivalent Level 1 functional skills qualification in English and Maths

    You will be assessed by a combination of assignments, course work, observation of practical workshops, and a final project.

    This course can lead to future employment in a number of art and design-based roles. These could include illustrator, sculptor, sketch artist, digital designer, product designer, architect, 3D model maker, animator, independent artist, painter, interior decorator, print designer, and fashion branding roles.
