Our Opportunities for Young People courses are aimed at year 11 learners, aged 14-16 years old, who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Our flexible range of vocational options offer these young people the opportunity to re-integrate themselves with education, gain valuable skills and qualifications, grow in confidence, and discover hidden talents.
The young people we work with may have been excluded from school or be at risk of exclusion, have very poor attendance, have a history of school refusal, or have other disruptive behaviours that prevent them from attending school. The aim of these courses is to re-engage these learners, aid personal development, and ultimately increase employability.
Students on the part -time programme the opportunity to choose an area of vocational study in a subject such as Creative Arts & Media, Sport, Construction, Hair & Beauty, Hospitality & Catering, or Business.
All young people on full-time programmes will be working towards the following qualifications:
- GCSE English and maths / Functional Skills
- BTEC Science
- Prince's Trust Achieve - Level 1 Award in Personal Development and Employability Skills
- One vocational option
All learner applications come directly from schools or local authorities, and learners are given an initial assessment to determine their appropriate level of study for the year, and background information from schools and local authorities will be used to support this decision.

Learners will be assessed during class hours and will create a portfolio of work.
Where can this course take you?
Successfully completing their Opportunities for Young People course could lead to a Pre-Apprenticeship, a full Apprenticeship, a number of vocational study programmes, or employment in the industry the learner is interested in.
