Description

This one year Full-time course is for students aged 16 to 20, who have a moderate learning difficulty or disability and those who need more support with a range of practical life skills. This creates a smooth transition from school to college. Students on this course receive a high-level of support and encouragement aimed at increasing academic, social and independence skills as well as introducing work readiness skills.All students study English, Maths and ICT and must have sufficient basic skills to enable them to work at around Entry 1 level. Students will study a variety of subjects designed to increase confidence, communication, social skills and independence, as well as subjects from the pathways headed. All the students have termly SMART targets set, that work towards the students ECHP plans. A wide range of strategies are used to enable the students to access the curriculum and can be adapted to meet the individual learners needs. These can include bespoke timetables, additional support, and adapted teaching and learning material and resources as needed. All students are interviewed by the Tutor and will have an assessment to ensure suitability for the course. Students are expected to have independent skills and be able to cope within the main college environment. There is a member of staff on duty at break times, but students are free to access all parts of the college independently or leave the building. Where appropriate students will be supported and encouraged to travel to college independently.

Students can progress on to the employability courses and from these students have moved on to payed and voluntary empolyment in these vocational areas

    Students can progress onto the Independence life skills course for students looking to move on into the community or if they can move on to one of the vocational courseswith an Employability focus.
