The Level 3 Certificate in Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (Sports Coaching) has been specifically designed to help prepare you for a career in the sports and fitness industry, and provide you with a solid base of practical skills and theoretical knowledge; to enable you to advance to higher-level qualifications.
You’ll learn about exercise, health, and lifestyle; sports coaching; and learn what a career in sport and physical activity is really like. From there, you’ll have the opportunity to tailor your course to your own goals and interests, with a wide-array of specialised modules. These include individual and team sports, technical and tactical skills, sports psychology, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, fitness training and programming, sports injuries, strength and conditioning, performance management, and much more.
More than just developing your scientific knowledge and practical skills, this course can also teach you about the business and theory behind sports coaching, with learning modules such as organising sports events, ethics and values, current issues in sport, sports leadership and development, and personal and professional development.

What do you need to apply?
4 GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) at grade C or 4 or above or Equivalent Level 2 vocational qualification at merit/pass or above
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including portfolio creation, practical performance tasks, written assignments and reports, and coursework. There are three levels of qualification success: Pass, Merit, and Distinction.
Where can this course take you?
This course could lead to employment as a sports coach, personal trainer, or in the fitness industry in general. It can also provide the opportunity for further study and training.
After successfully passing the Level 3 Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (Sports Coaching), you may wish to consider expanding your knowledge and skills with one of the following courses:
- Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (NCFE)
- Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Sport Science) (NCFE)
After gaining additional higher-level qualifications, you could ultimately progress to one of the following undergraduate degrees, available at London South Bank University:

- BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Analysis
