Playing games is a serious business.
The global esports industry is expected to be worth $1.1 billion in 2020, rising to $1.5 billion by 2023, and the total audience â€“ which stood at 454 million people in 2019 â€“ is going to rise to 646 million*. Those numbers all add up to mean one thing: there’s never been a better time to gain the qualifications you need, and enter the exciting, evolving, and ever-expanding world of esports.
Put simply, esports (electronic sports) is competitive video gaming. Tournaments usually involve amateur or professional gamers competing against one another, either purely online, or in gaming arenas. This one-year full-time course provides an in-depth study of the sector, supporting your progression to higher-level study, and preparing you for employment in this high-octane industry.
The Level 2 Diploma in Esports and Performance will introduce you to key areas such as coaching; health and fitness in the esports industry; enterprise and creativity; leadership; entrepreneurship; events; practical gaming; personal and professional development; and provide an understanding and appreciation of the positive benefits of esports. These include the development of teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision-making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.

What modules will you do?
You will develop skills, techniques, and knowledge of areas that can include:
- Esports games, teams and tournaments
- Establishing an esports organisation
- Streaming for esports
- Planning an esports event
- Starting an enterprise in esports
- Designing an esports game
- Positive health and well-being in esport
What do you need to apply?
4 GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) at grade D or 3 or above or Equivalent Level 1 vocational qualification
Additional information: Minimum of x2 GCSEs at C or 4 or above Maths and English achieved at Entry Level or Level 1
How will you be assessed?
You will be continually assessed throughout the duration of the course, via a combination of practical tasks, time-constrained assessments, written assignments, oral presentations, professional discussions, and group work. Each study unit is individually graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, and an overall grade is given at the end of the course.
Where can this course take you?
This course can lead to future employment in a number of digital, esports, and creative media-based roles. Alternatively, you could progress to an apprenticeship in a related sector, such as events, IT, digital marketing, or creative media.
After successfully passing the Level 2 Diploma in Esports and Performance, you may wish to consider expanding your skills on one of the following Level 3 courses:
