This course is aimed at mature students (19+) who wish to study nursing, midwifery, nutrition, and a wide range of other health related courses. You will be studying biology, chemistry, physics, nutrition, microbiology, maths and study skills. In addition, you will be required to spend at least 15 hours a week in independent study. We have a large Learning Resource Centre with quiet zones, work areas and access to computer resources.
Most of your sessions will take place in well-equipped science laboratories. There you will be able to improve your practical skills using real equipment and chemicals under the supervision of experienced subject specialist teachers. These same specialists will teach the theory behind practical work.
You will be required to conduct practical investigations, write reports and carry out research in order to fulfil the criteria. Your assessment will be based on your course work as well as short tests and exams. Assignments, exams and tests.
A-level books in chemistry and biology, lab coat, stationary, scientific calculators, rulers, access to a computer and the internet. Our minimum entry criteria may be altered at any stage up to and including enrolment. All offers are subject to a successful interview and completion of an initial and diagnostic assessment. For some of the programmes we offer you will require: Level 2 vocational qualifications at merit or above in Science (or a pass if the equivalent level 2 vocational qualification is awarded as pass or fail only), most importantly you will need an aptitude for science.
