Are you looking to increase your specialisation or change your study direction? Would you like to advance to Higher Education but are worried that your lack of qualifications is a barrier? If you answered yes to any of those questions, and are aged 19 or over, then we have the perfect course to help you achieve your goals.

The Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Health & Human Science is a one-year qualification designed to give you a direct route into Higher Education. Whether that be to study for a Bachelors Degree, or Higher National Diploma, in a health-related subject.

On this course you will develop your knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of health and human science-related industries. You will study a number of topics essential to a career in this sector, including nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, nutrition, and you will gain applied knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics, and microbiology.

Most of your sessions will take place in our well-equipped science laboratories, where you will be able to improve your practical skills using industry-standard equipment and materials, under the supervision of experienced subject-specialist teachers. These same specialists will also teach you the theory and principles behind your practical work. In addition to this, you will be required to spend at least 15 hours a week in independent study.

More than just industry-specific learning, the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma will also teach you educational skills and study tools, in order to further help you in your progression to Higher Education and university. These skills include report writing, research skills, communication skills, arithmetic skills for health studies, using information technology, and examination skills designed to help you prepare for, and succeed in, exam situations.

Note: For this course you will need A Level books in chemistry and biology, a lab coat, stationary, scientific calculator, ruler, access to a computer and the internet.

You will study a mix of health-related topics and general study skills. These could include:

  • Essay writing
  • Arithmetic skills for health studies
  • Finding and reading information
  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Nutrition
  • Microbiology

What do you need to apply?

  • 4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language
  • Level 2 vocational qualification and a Level 2 English qualification
  • Or proven industry experience.

Additional information: GCSE English and maths at Grade C or 4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 Functional skills in both subjects. International students IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) and equivalent overseas qualifications.

How will you be assessed?

You will be assessed by a combination of practical assessments, coursework, project work, and examinations.
