This Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Applied Science is an advanced qualification that can take you a huge-step closer to your ultimate goal of a successful and rewarding career in a science-based industry. Whether your ambitions lie in biology, chemistry, or physics; in applied, forensic, or medical science; or even in engineering, sport, food and nutrition, or health and social care; this course will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to help you achieve your future career goals.
Based at our state-of-the-art laboratories; you will get to perform real experiments and hands-on assignments, using industry-standard equipment, and be taught how to analyse your results. Through a combination of compulsory and optional modules, you will receive a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of science and scientific investigations, develop a range of essential skills and techniques, and learn about what life working the science industry is really like.
This course allows you to then tailor your modules to the scientific area that most interests you, with study options that could include mathematical tools and calculations, biochemistry and biochemical techniques, environmental science, electrical circuits and electronics, medical physics techniques, physiology, genetics, and microbiology.
What modules will you do?
You will study a mix of compulsory and optional subjects.
There are nine units that cover topics in biology, chemistry, maths and physics. All units contain practical work therefore students will be able to enhance their practical skills as well as understanding of the theory behind it. There may be opportunity to study GCSE English and maths alongside this course for those with Functional Skills qualifications.
What do you need to apply?
5 GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) at grade C or 4 or above or equivalent Level 2 vocational qualification at merit/pass or above.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed by a combination of practical assignments and course work, as well as timed constrained assessments for some units.
Where can this course take you?
This course could lead to employment in a variety of science-related industries including biomedical science, nursing, health and social care, pharmaceuticals, food and nutrition, environmental science, and engineering; or give you the opportunity to progress to further study and Higher Education.
After successfully passing the Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Applied Science, you could further develop your knowledge and skills, and gain access to Higher Education, with one of the following courses:
