Is this the course for you?

With over 4 million people currently living with diabetes in the UK alone, and with that figure expected to rise to 6 million by the year 2031, it is vital that we all learn how our lifestyles and diets can be adapted to minimise the risk of contracting diabetes, and how we can monitor and manage the condition when it does occur.

The nationally-recognised Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Care and Management of diabetes is not just aimed at those of you who are looking for a career in the healthcare industry, or are already working in the care sector, it is also a fantastic course for those of you whose lives are personally affected by diabetes in one way or another.

This course will help you to understand the different types of diabetes, and how the condition can be monitored and controlled. You will gain valuable knowledge in the prevention of Type 2 diabetes through lifestyle changes and what early intervention steps you can take, and it will teach you about initial care through to treatment and management of the condition.

This is an online course taught over 4-8 weeks, so it offers you the flexibility to fit your studies around your existing work, training, or home-life commitments, whilst achieving agreed deadlines set by you and your tutor.

What modules will you do?

You will study the following topics:

  • Unit 1: Understand diabetes
  • Unit 2: Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes
  • Unit 3: Understanding the initial care of diabetes
  • Unit 4: Understanding the treatment and management of diabetes

What do you need to apply?

4 GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) at grade D or 3 or above, or Level 1 vocational qualification, or Level 1 qualification in English.

Additional Information: If you do not hold a suitable Level 1 qualification, or cannot provide evidence of one, you may still be able to enrol on this course following an initial assessment to test your level of literacy in English.

How will you be assessed?

This course can be completed fully online, or via paper-based learning. Both options are assessed via online tests and assessments.

This course is suitable for you if you are already working in the healthcare sector, are looking to find employment in an entry-level healthcare role, or would like to better understand diabetes care for personal reasons or responsibilities. It can also give you the opportunity to increase your career options through further study.

After successfully passing the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes, you may wish to consider progressing on to one of the following Level 3 courses to expand your knowledge and skills:

  • Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Health and Social Care (BTEC)
  • Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (QCF)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (City and Guilds)
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (BTEC)
