This course is designed to give you the basic barbering skills needed to cut and style men's hair. It will also teach you hairdressing techniques, and develop your knowledge of what it's like to work in a professional salon.
Long gone are the days where men were only interested in a short back and sides, and men's hairdressing is now a hugely popular and profitable area of the hair industry. So, whether you're just starting out in hairdressing, or already have some knowledge and basic skills in the industry, the Level 2 Certificate in Barbering could be the perfect course to kickstart your career and put you on the path to becoming a fully-qualified barber.
You will be shown the complete barbering process; from providing consultation services to clients, right through to cutting hair, trimming beards, and recommending products. You will also learn about hair treatments and techniques such as shampooing and conditioning, and styling men's hair. This course will also give you an insight into what life in the hair industry is really like, while teaching you transferrable skills such as health and safety, customer service, and salon reception duties.
The Level 2 Certificate in Barbering covers the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the hair industry as a junior barber.
This is a part-time evening course so it can be fitted in around your existing work, study, or family commitments.
What modules will you do?
You will study a mixture of exiting and interesting topics, that can include:
- Working in the hair industry
- Following health and safety in the salon
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
- Client consultation for hair services
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
- Cut men's hair
- Cut facial hair
- Styling men's hair
What do you need to apply?
4 GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) at grade D or 3 or above or equivalent Level 1 vocational qualification.
Additional Information: Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing (or industry experience in cutting hair)
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed by a combination of practical assessments (performing treatments and techniques on clients) and course work.
Where can this course take you?
This course can lead to employment as a junior barber.
Further study, or a vocational apprenticeship, could also lead to you developing the additional skills to become a fully qualified barber or men's stylist.
After successfully passing the Level 2 Certificate in Barbering, you may wish to consider progressing on to the following course:
