If you are aged 19 or over and are looking to improve your English skills in order to progress to further study; find your perfect job; advance in your current career; or just be more confident in your use of English language in your daily life; then our Functional Skills English courses could be exactly what you need.

These courses are designed to give you the knowledge and skills to operate more confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life. You will develop your English skills in spelling, vocabulary usage, grammar and punctuation, reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

There are six different levels of study, and you will have an initial assessment to make sure you start learning at the level that is right for you. The levels we offer are:

  • Adult Entry 1 Edexcel Functional Skills English
  • Adult Entry 2 Edexcel Functional Skills English
  • Adult Entry 3 Edexcel Functional Skills English
  • Adult Level 1 Edexcel Functional Skills English
  • Adult Level 2 Edexcel Functional Skills English

After successfully passing your course, you can use your improved communications skills to help you to advance on to further study, find work, or just be more confident in your everyday use of English language.

With multiple start dates - and both day and evening classes available - these part-time courses are perfectly suited to those of you with existing work, home, or study commitments.

  • What do you need to apply?

    No formal qualifications required

    Additional Information:

    You will have an initial assessment in English grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

  • How will you be assessed?

    You will be assessed during class hours and will create a portfolio of work. You'll also have examinations based on what you have learnt.

  • Where can this course take you?

    Once you have successfully completed your English course, you may progress to a higher level of English learning, or on to a vocational study programme.

    We advise that you need to be at Level 1 to move onto a specific-subject vocational qualification.
