Is this the course for you?

If you are an adult learner (aged 19 or over) and are looking to improve your English skills in order to progress to further study and qualifications, including a wide range of vocational courses here at Lambeth College; or improve your employment and career prospects; then our GCSE English programme is here to help you on your path.

On this course you will study the key areas of English you will need to achieve your future educational or career goals. These include critical reading and comprehension, identifying themes and ideas, writing clear and coherent text, writing for impact, speaking standard English, presenting information and ideas through English language, and much more.

And for those of you returning to education, or without experience of formal exams, there is no need to worry; our team of expert tutors will fully prepare you via a mix of homework assignments, past papers, and classroom-based and exam-condition Mock Exams.

If your aim is to gain entry to one of Lambeth College's exciting, industry-standard, vocational qualifications, then you may also wish to consider enrolling on our GCSE Maths programme for adult learners. And, as this is a part-time programme, it is perfectly suited to those of you who need to base your study around your existing home, work, or educational commitments.

What experience and skills will you gain?

You will develop your knowledge and skills in areas such as:

  • Creative Reading and Writing
  • Writer's Viewpoints and Perspectives
  • Spoken Language
  • Reading and Comprehension
  • Writing Effective English

What do you need to apply?

No formal qualifications are required

Additional Information:

You will have an initial assessment of your current skill-level in English, in order to determine which is the right level qualification for you.

How will you be assessed?

The first 10 weeks of your course will be assessed via a portfolio of your completed work. Your tutors will also look at the progress you have made, your attendance record and punctuality, your attitude to learning, and the work you have completed between classes.

Once you have passed your 10-week portfolio assessment, you will progress to the full GCSE qualification; where you will be assessed via two written exams.

These exams will each last for 1hr 45mins, and will be a mix of short-form, longer-form, and extended questions. You will also have a non-examination oral assessment in your use of standard spoken English.

Please Note: GCSE exam dates are nationally-fixed and cannot be moved. You will be notified of the dates and times well in advance, and will need to ensure that you are available for each exam.

Where can this course take you?

Once you have successfully completed your course, you could progress to a higher-level English qualification; or on to a vocational study programme here at Lambeth College.
