The Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Civil Engineering is a one-year qualification designed to give you a direct route into Higher Education. Whether that be to study for a Bachelors Degree, or a Higher National Diploma, in civil engineering, construction or architecture.

On this course you will learn a range of practical and technical skills; develop your knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of civil engineering; and receive a thorough overview of the built environment. You will study a number of topics essential to a career in the civil engineering sector, including construction technology, engineering materials, site and brief analysis, land surveys, sustainability, computer aided design (CAD), and health and safety.

More than just industry-specific learning, the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma will also teach you educational skills and study tools, in order to further help you in your progression to Higher Education and university. These skills include report writing, research, essay writing, communication skills, word processing, and examination skills designed to help you prepare for, and succeed in, exam situations.

What modules will you do?

You will study a mix of civil engineering topics and general educational-skills.

What do you need to apply?

  • 4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language
  • Level 2 vocational qualification and a Level 2 English qualification

How will you be assessed?

You will be assessed by a combination of practical assessments, coursework, project work, and examinations.

Where can this course take you?

After successfully passing the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Civil Engineering, you may wish to consider furthering your training with one of the following undergraduate programmes, available at London South Bank University (additional qualifications may be required):

  • Civil Engineering BEng (Hons)
  • Architectural Engineering BEng (Hons)
  • Construction Management BSc (Hons)
