Is this the course for you?

If your goal is for a rewarding career as an early years educator, in a role such as a children's centre assistant, nursery school practitioner, or practitioner in reception classes and primary schools, or if you are already working in an early years setting and are looking to increase your knowledge and training, then this course can help you realise your ambition.

The Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma for the Early Years Workforce will prepare you to work with babies and young children from birth to 7 years old, and teach you specialised knowledge of the early years setting of 0-5 years. This course promotes teaching and learning to make sure that children have the social, developmental, educational, and cognitive skills they need to fulfil their potential.

Your studies will be focussed upon four main categories that apply to early years education: Health and well-being; Legislation, frameworks and professional practice; Play, development and learning for school readiness; and Professional development. Through a combination of academic study and practical work placement you will develop an in-depth understanding of a wide variety of topics that apply to early years settings.

You will develop knowledge, skills, and understanding in areas that could include supporting healthy lifestyles for children through food, nutrition, and exercise; promoting children's emotional well-being; supporting children's learning and development through play; developing young learners' mathematical and literacy skills; health and safety; equality, diversity, and inclusivity; supporting children with additional needs; and promoting personal, social, and emotional development.

This qualification content meets the Department for Education's (DfE) Level 3 full criteria for a Level 3 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce. Successfully completing this course will allow you to enter

What modules will you do?

You will gain knowledge and skills in areas such as:

  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through food, nutrition, and exercise
  • Support physical care routines for children
  • Promote children's emotional well-being
  • Understand how to support children who are unwell
  • Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection, and welfare; health and safety; and equality, diversity and inclusive practice
  • Plan, lead and review play opportunities which support children's learning and development
  • Developing children's mathematical and literacy skills
  • Support children's transition to school
  • Promote children's speech, language and communication
  • Promoting children's personal, social and emotional development
  • Support children with additional needs
  • Use observation, assessment and planning to promote the development of children

What do you need to apply?

  • 4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language
  • Level 2 vocational qualification and a Level 2 English qualification

Additional information: You are required to have a clear DBS check to enrol on this course.

How will you be assessed?

You will be assessed via practical work-based assessments and course work.

Where can this course take you?

This course could lead directly to employment as an early years educator in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors. Suitable roles include children's centre assistant, nursery school practitioner, practitioner in reception classes and primary schools, and pre-school worker.

After successfully passing the Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma for the Early Years Workforce, you could further develop your knowledge and skills on the following Level 4 course:

  • Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner (NCFE CACHE)
