If you have already started your journey to becoming a therapeutic counsellor, and are looking to take your qualifications to the next professional level, then the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is the course for you.
This qualification will give you the knowledge, skills and competencies you need to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context. You will grow professionally as a counselling practitioner, developing your knowledge and skills in both the study, and practical application, of a variety of counselling and psychological models of therapeutic treatment.
You will gain valuable experience in working with client diversity, and working safely and ethically, while increasing your knowledge of counselling theory and skills and developing your self-awareness and self-reflection.
This course also requires a minimum of 100 hours of face-to-face counselling in an agency setting, and 40 sessions of personal counselling over the two years of study.
Successful completion of this course can lead to employed and voluntary roles in both health care and non-medical agencies, and can open the door to progressing to independent and private practice.
This is a two-year part-time course, with classes held every Tuesday for 35 weeks. With a choice of two study times, either held during the day or an afternoon/evening session (1.50pm-8.30pm), this course can be fitted in around your existing work, study, or family commitments.

What do you need to apply?
Level 2 CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Skills AND Level 3 CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Studies (Or equivalent qualifications)
Additional Information: Minimum Age: 19 Preferred Age: 25+
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed in a number of ways, including feedback on counselling skills practice, learning reviews and summaries, presentations on theory, written essays, case studies, agency supervisor reports, and external assessments.
Placement experience: You will be required to arrange and complete a minimum of 100 hours of formally contracted face-to-face counselling with at least 5 different clients in an agency setting. If you are working with children or adolescents (up to age 17) you will be able to count up to 30 hours towards the 100 hours total. This counselling will need to be provided within an agency setting and within a service framework that includes both a line manager and clinical supervision.
- Personal development: You will be required to arrange and complete forty sessions of personal counselling; comprised of 15 sessions in year one and 25 sessions in year two.
Where can this course take you?
This qualification will allow you to work as a therapeutic counsellor in both healthcare and non-medical agencies. These agency settings can include community-based services, mental health, NHS, addiction recovery, schools, and social care.
After successfully passing the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, you may wish to consider progressing on to the following higher education course, available at London South Bank University (additional entry qualifications may be required)
