Is this the course for you?

Being an effective counsellor or skilled helper is not just about your qualifications and exam results, it's about your personal qualities and how you interact with those who need help. That's why this course focuses on personal development, and how to helpfully interact with people who are seeking assistance or guidance.

The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is centred on the development of practical knowledge and the real-life application of counselling theory. Your study sessions will be very hands-on, and will focus on nurturing the core counselling skills that support work of all levels requires, including such roles as mentoring, key working, care planning, teaching, and pastoral work.

This will be achieved through practical exercises and role play, developing self-awareness and empathy, learning to read body language, understanding ethics and boundaries, working without prejudice or stereotypes, giving and receiving feedback, and taking part in group work and discussions.

You will also gain an understanding of counselling theory and the different approaches that can be taken, such as the Person-Centred approach, and the Gerard Egan skilled helper model.
