Is this the course for you?

If you're looking for a fast-paced career in food, then read on. Production chefs work with quality and quantity in the kitchen, often producing food in environments like schools, hospitals, the Armed Forces, care homes, pub kitchens or casual dining on the high street.

In this Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship, you'll learn how to blend your culinary talent with methodical precision to produce high quality, high volume food.

In a hands-on environment, you'll develop the skills to work with centrally developed standardised recipes and menus, with great energy, accuracy and attention to detail to ensure dishes are on time and on budget.

What experience and skills will you gain?

  • How to maintain excellent standards of personal, food and kitchen hygiene
  • Ensure compliance to procedures, menu specifications and recipes
  • Produce food that meets portion controls, and budgetary constraints
  • Adapting and producing dishes to meet special dietary, religious and allergenic requirements
  • Follow, complete and maintain production schedules, legislative and quality standard documentation
  • Use specialist kitchen equipment
  • Communicate internally and externally with customers and colleagues
  • Commit to personal development activities

What do you need to apply?

If you don't have a Level 1 English and maths, you'll need to achieve it and have taken the test for Level 2 English and Maths before taking your end-point assessment; we will support you with this.

For those with an education, health and care plan, or a legacy statement the minimum requirement for English and Maths is Level 3.

If British Sign Language is your primary language, then equivalent levels in British Sign Language qualifications will be accepted in place of English.

How will you be assessed?

You will be assessed using three complementary assessment methods: on-demand test, practical observation and professional discussion.
