The Governing Body of Lambeth College has formally resolved to join the LSBU family of institutions subject to public consultation in a move that is expected to reinvigorate the College and create better access to education across South London.

This decision follows a Further Education Commissioner-led Structure and Prospects Appraisal which considered expressions of interest and proposals from a number of organisations. Whilst arrangements need to be finalised between DfE, the College and the University, this proposal will provide a national model for HE and FE collaboration.

"Joining the LSBU family heralds the beginning of an exciting new era for Lambeth College and we are delighted to be working with the University of the Year for Graduate Employment," said Lambeth College Principal and Chief Executive Monica Box. "We look forward to working with the team at LSBU to improve further education provision in Lambeth and to build on our position as the 'careers college' of choice for the local community."

Mary McCormack, Chair of the Lambeth College Board of Governors, said, “London South Bank University offers us an innovative and exciting way forward. Lambeth learners will benefit from being part of a much wider range of opportunities. I am confident that this partnership will ensure the development and growth of further education in this borough and surrounding local area.”

Welcoming the news, Professor David Phoenix, Vice Chancellor of London South Bank University, said “Over the last two years LSBU has been working closely with Lambeth College and local stakeholders on a detailed plan that meets the needs of our local communities. This is an exciting development for LSBU and Lambeth College that will enable us to more effectively deliver on our educational mission to transform lives, business and communities through the power of education.

“The unique 'family' approach creates a coordinated group of specialist institutions, each sharing a common educational framework that focuses on the learner. It supports transfer between technical, vocational and academic pathways and creates clear progression routes into and through the middle tier of highly skilled technical and professional roles and will provide better access to both further and higher education.”
