College Principal Richard Chambers says: “Our aim is simple: we want to help young people in Lambeth meet their potential. That means giving them a College they can feel proud of, and which they want to attend. The new Clapham Centre enables us to provide the best Sixth Form provision in the Borough.”
The Clapham centre offers the widest range of courses in South London, including:
- Strong focus on skills for business and IT training
- A large number of vocational courses (many of which are not available at other Colleges in the borough)
- Health, Social Care and Child Care courses
- Media, multimedia and technology and 3D design
- Full and varied range of academic subjects
- Career Academies in Business and Computing
The focus of the new Sixth Form Centre is not just on A and AS Levels, but also wider skills and qualifications such as BTEC National Diplomas. Students will be well equipped to go straight into work or to progress to university.
Richard Chambers explains: “We wanted a building with ‘wow factor’ – an iconic building for Lambeth. The design radiates optimism about our collective ability to learn together. “
The College has invested substantially in IT to make the Centre a cutting-edge work environment and includes:
- Under floor cabling throughout the building
- Huge server capacity and flexible IT configuration
- Wireless access and touchdown zones for students who have their own laptops, and plenty of IT zones and plenty of PCs for those who don’t have them
Leisure and enrichment activities for students will continue to be developed, from chess to boxing and from BMX biking to driving theory lessons.
