Lambeth College has launched its new Strategic Plan 2012-2017 to become a careers and employability focused college.

As Lambeth College - The Careers College, the new strategic plan will allow the College to engage with key partners to create improved opportunities, social mobility and prosperity for the communities in and around Lambeth.

Key to the plan are new building projects for the College’s Clapham and Vauxhall centres to deliver an exciting new vocational curriculum which is seen as critical to the future growth and sustainability of The Careers College.  New provision includes hospitality and catering, motor vehicle maintenance, spa therapy, uniformed public services and a wider range of apprenticeships and professional qualifications.

Amongst many new initiatives outlined in the plan is the setting up of The Skills Exchange, a service for the College to broker links between employers and voluntary groups who have vacancies and students who are looking for full or part time jobs or work experience. The Careers College aims to provide more that just technical training but will give students the skills and support they need to operate in their work and everyday lives.

Speaking at the launch to key stakeholders of the Lambeth College Strategic Plan 2012-2017 on Tuesday 27 November Lambeth College’s Principal and Chief Executive Mark Silverman said:  “As I have been sharing the contents of our exciting new strategic plan with external partners including Lambeth Council, Jobcentre Plus, New Covent Garden Market, Higher Education partners, schools and employers, they have all given very positive and supportive feedback on our ambitious new direction which is very encouraging.

“This is an exciting time to be in Lambeth.  With the Vauxhall Nine Elms development and investment in Brixton and the Southbank/Waterloo, Lambeth has a great opportunity to bring much needed employment opportunities to this part of London. The College is well placed to provide the training to get people into these jobs.

“Our new prospectus for both young people and adults, ’Your Careers Guide 2013-2014 ’, will be available in December and local people will be able to see for themselves the changes taking place at the College both  in the prospectus and at open events we are planning throughout 2013.”
