Lambeth College Graduation Ceremony

Athletics legend, gold medal champion and inspirational speaker Kriss Akabusi joined over 250 proud students from Lambeth College as they donned the traditional academic attire of cap and gown to celebrate their 2012 achievements at the annual Lambeth College Student Graduation Ceremony on the 24th November.

Following the popularity of last year’s ceremony the College hired once more the second largest venue on London’s Southbank Centre, the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall to celebrate with students who had achieved qualifications at Level 3 or above.
Sporting legend Akabusi, famous for his achievements in athletics where he won a Gold Medal in the 1990 European Championships, gave a rousing keynote speech that had all students up on their feet cheering their support.
Graduates and guests were also treated to video footage of Akabusi in his triumph at the World Championships 4x400 metre relay in Tokyo in 1991 where he helped the British team clinch a Gold medal.
The students have achieved qualifications in a diverse range of subjects including Accounting, Construction, Counselling, Video and Radio Production, Electrical Installations, Health and Social Care, Hairdressing and Dental Technology; many progressing on to university, securing employment or establishing their own enterprise initiatives.
Mark Silverman, Principal and Chief Executive of Lambeth College joined Kriss Akabusi in shaking hands with each student as they came on to the stage to loud applause from their fellow students, families and friends. The Principal commented “This is a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their achievements with family and friends. It was very pleasing to see such a wide range of age groups represented at our graduation ceremony, proving that lifelong learning is not just an empty phrase but a concept that has been truly embraced by the students at Lambeth College.”
Lambeth College would also like to thank the sponsors of the 2012 Graduation Ceremony:  First Stop Print; Hotcourses; Media Alive; PTG Digital and Tangerine.
