June 2009

Young people at Lambeth College were rewarded for their hard work and enthusiasm at a glitzy ceremony at the College’s brand new Sixth Form Centre in June.

Students at Lambeth College are encouraged to take part in a whole range of different extra-curricular activities in their spare time as well as becoming volunteer mentors to local school children.  Amongst the many enrichment programmes students have taken part in over the past year have included: drama and dance classes, martial arts, go-cart building, sporting and adventure weekends (where students take the Community Sports Leadership Award), first aid, BSM driving theory, magazine production, and even wall and floor tiling.

Enriched_web_2This year’s special guests at the ceremony were ‘M People’ star Heather Small and singer and songwriter Don-E who also performed at the event.  Heather came to the college to present a special award to students who have prepared statements expressing how proud they are to be Lambeth College students.  These statements are displayed around the College along with the student’s portrait photograph to help inspire other students.

Head of Student Performance at the College, Paul Chambers, paid tribute to the dedication of our young students and told the audience: “These awards highlight the many obstacles students work so hard to get over in order to achieve their goals.  They are prepared to put in the extra work, often attending college in the evenings and during vacation periods, to further enrich their learning experience. Putting in extra work will always be a fact of life if you want to gain that extra mile.”
