At the carwash yeah! Tutor Angus Pickthall and students from the Sport and Leisure: BTEC Introductory Diploma course wash cars to raise money for worthy causes.
Students from Lambeth College’s Sport and Leisure: BTEC Introductory Diploma put themselves through their paces in March to raise money for a very worthy cause. Over a three-week period the students took part in a sponsored silence, a raffle, a five-a-side football match and also spent a day washing cars in the Clapham Centre car park. College staff paid the students £5 to wash and polish their cars and motorcycles.
At the end of the three weeks they had raised £375 and donated it to the Evon Frimpong Project, which strives to raise money to educate and enhance children’s lives in Ghana.
The project’s founder is Abigail Frimpong who set up the charity in memory of her Mother. Abigail is a former member of staff at our Clapham Centre. She left the College to train as a youth worker and has worked as a community worker and English teacher in the village of Obogu in Ghana. As part of her job there she set up a project to encourage more children to attend the local secondary school.
Students are presented with certificates for their efforts by Delorine Green and Abigail Frimpong.
The project is currently busy fundraising to build a new library in the village. Abigail came to the College to ask our students to help her raise the funds and they didn’t disappoint.
Delorine Green is Head of Health and Science Curriculum for 14 to 19 year olds at our Clapham Centre. She said: The students have worked hard to help Abigail raise cash for her project. They have also learnt and developed some new skills. It has given them a real sense of purpose and pride in knowing their efforts will make a difference to other people’s lives.”
