Ingrid Marsh answers questions during 'Ask Ingz' in her 1 O'Clock show on Vox Radio.

November 2009

Lambeth College’s flagship radio station ‘Vox Radio’ is back on air this month, live via our college intranet site LCNet.  The hugely popular station is the continuation of a very ambitious project by the students on our Radio C&G Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Media Techniques course at our Vauxhall Centre.  Listeners can connect to the broadcast every Thursday between 9am and 3pm.

The innovative project has been a huge success over the last four years and has been hailed by many staff and students of the College as being professional and engaging.  The station’s aim is to keep the College’s students and staff informed on educational issues, news and events, hot topics, debates and other items of interest, as well as playing great music.

Course tutor Sheila Smith said: “There is a real buzz around the radio studios in November as students go live with all their carefully prepared schedules and materials.  There is excitement and a few butterflies but a collective desire to make the whole broadcasting project a success.”

Preparation for the station’s launch began in September.  The students have to do lots of research into the type of programming, topics and music tastes their target audience will appreciate.  They also need to learn the practical and presentation skills required to keep a real radio station alive and appealing.

Radio Student Ingrid Marsh introduces her show in the afternoon and mixes classic tunes, current ‘hot’ topics, celebrity gossip and discusses real-life issues affecting students.  The show features an ‘Ask Ingz’ section where students email her their questions, observations and opinions during the show.   She said: “I’ve always dreamt of hosting my very own radio talk show and here I am turning that dream into a reality.”

Dom Doyley, another member of the Vox team said: This is a very exciting project and I love being part of a creative and enthusiastic team.  We are all working away at making Vox Radio a station that people enjoy listening to.”
