Students welcomed more than 500 guests to Lambeth College on Saturday 6th June, when the College opened its doors to the public for its Big Open Day.

The event was held to launch South London’s new flagship sixth form centre on Clapham Common.  Amongst the day’s highlights were a gala performance by College students, an exhibition of local schools’ most promising young artists and a range of demonstrations and displays, from childcare to construction. Guests had the chance to meet students and staff, and were entertained by local DJ Richard Blackwood and music from the Choice FM team.

Student Avia Passley said: “The new Clapham Sixth Form facilities are great and I can see them providing opportunities for all of our young people.  I am extremely proud to be a part of Lambeth College.”

Choice fm’s Richard Blackwood said: "The students were brilliant. Lambeth College offers fantastic opportunities for South London's young people to succeed in whatever they want to do."

Gemma Casserly, Head of Art at St Thomas the Apostle School in Peckham, one of the local schools taking part in the public art exhibition, said: “Our pupils were very proud to see their work displayed in the new college building and it was a valuable experience for them to see the new art and creative media resources.”

College Principal Richard Chambers said: “We are very proud of our new sixth form, and so we were delighted that so many parents, friends and family came to look round the building and meet students and staff.

“We hope that anyone considering their next steps in education will be convinced that Lambeth College is the best option. We’ve got great Ofsted results, a wide range of courses and excellent staff, and now, with this amazing new building, we also have the best teaching facilities in South London.”

The new sixth form centre has over 40 teaching rooms with capacity for 1200 students. It includes a 160-capacity performing arts venue, a student careers hub, state of the art IT zones, a ‘chill out zone’, and a new media and arts centre, including a rooftop garden overlooking Clapham Common.  The iconic £20 million building has been designed by architects BDP.
