Students at Lambeth College have joined governors and staff for a sneak preview of their new sixth form building at the Clapham Centre.
Although the building does not officially open until June 6th, student representatives were amongst the first to see inside the £20million new building. As well as over 40 teaching rooms, with capacity for 1200 students, the new sixth form centre includes a 160-capacity performing arts venue, a student careers hub, state of the art IT zones, a ‘chill out zone’ and a new media and arts centre, including a rooftop garden overlooking Clapham Common.
Dame Lorna Boreland-Kelly, Chair of the College’s governors, said “We are very proud of our new building, which we believe offers the very best learning facilities in South London. This building certainly has the ‘wow’ factor and it’s been a real joy to see the reactions of our students when they see their new space. We can’t wait to move in and start using the new centre.”
I9 year old BTEC Business and Finance student Saudiq Baoku is now looking forward to continuing his studies in the new building, “I love the roof garden and the views across London and the feeling of space everywhere in the new building. This will be an amazing, inspirational place to study.”
Parents, prospective students and members of the local community will also have a chance to look round the new building when the College holds its ‘BIG Open Day’ on Saturday 6 June from 12 - 4pm. As well as guided tours and the chance to meet staff and students, there will be entertainment from Choice FM, and the opportunity to take part in activities ranging from motorcycle maintenance to hair and beauty.
