People Get Ready

Waterless Swimming: The stage is suddenly transformed into a huge deep swimming pool during the 'People Get Ready' performance in our new Sixth Form Centre Auditorium in June.
June 2009
Lambeth College unveiled it’s stylish new auditorium in June with an all-singing all-dancing spectacular performance in front of Lambeth’s Mayor Christopher Wellbelove.
The brand new 160-seat theatre, which is housed in the College’s inspirational Sixth Form Centre at Clapham Common, is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and set facilities as well as a separate dance studio.
Students from our Performing Arts classes put together a high-energy programme entitled ‘People Get Ready’. It featured a journey through the horror of Frankenstein’s monster, the weightlessness of waterless swimming, music by Bill Haley and the Comets and Little Richard -which was accompanied by some fabulous dance routines – as well as some memorable solo vocal performances.

Lambeth Mayor Christopher Wellbelove enjoys the show.
Our students were joined on-stage by two ex-students who’s acting and directing careers have recently taken-off in earnest.
Ricky Payne is now a successful actor and filmmaker with credits such as a one-man show ‘Wombman’ at the Soho Theatre, London and five-star reviews at last year’s Edinburgh Festival.
Professional actor Jai Vethamoney went on to train at the Italia Conti Drama School after leaving Lambeth College and has recently received an award for his theatre work with young people.
A breath-taking dance finale to Bruce Springstein’s ‘Born to Run’ was followed by a choral performance of ‘The Circle of Life’ (from the Lion King) sung beautifully by our special guests - the Hill Mead Primary School Choir.
The theatre is part of a £20 million Sixth Form Centre which opens to students in September 2009.
