Our Plans for the Future

The Knowledge Hub: This will be the hub for the new London Programme, through which Lambeth College is forging close links with the City and London businesses, allowing students to experience internships and learn about professional life. It will also be the hub for student careers advice for 16-19 year olds at our new building at Clapham. The space will therefore consist of the following facilities: careers area; IT drop-in facilities; digital media presentation facilities; exhibition space; and a multi-media seminar area.

Lambeth College is embarking on an ambitious multi-million pound redevelopment of our estate. The first phase is now well progressed and will see the construction of a new sixth form building at the Clapham Centre, positioned at the front of the site on Clapham Common South Side, finishing in Spring 2009.

The sixth form centre will provide state-of-the-art teaching accommodation in an imposing five storey structure that has been designed by one of the UK’s leading architectural firms, BDP. Specialist facilities will be developed for Performing Arts and Creative Studies, and there will be modern Information & Communications Technology (ICT) throughout the building. This forms part of an increasing focus on provision for the 16-18 year old age group at Clapham.
It is also intended that the remainder of Clapham will see significant additional investment over the next six years. These plans are being discussed with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in order to determine the likely level of funding they can provide to support us.
Exciting plans are being drawn up for the redevelopment of the Brixton Centre. The 1960s facilities are in need of major improvement and this will require a creative solution in order to provide modern, flexible buildings. The proposal is to create a new technology centre, allowing courses to be relocated from the Vauxhall Centre. The College’s architects are currently drawing up initial plans so that an application can be made to the LSC for in-principle funding later in 2008.
The future of the Vauxhall Centre is being reviewed and will rely on final decisions being made regarding development at Clapham and potential partnerships with other institutions.
Within the next six years the Lambeth College estate will have been transformed significantly and will be able to provide both staff and students with consistently high quality and flexible accommodation across all academic programme areas.
