Stepping Up A Level
All smiles: Jodie-Ann, Titilope and Slimone discover their great marks for AS Level Health and Social Care. All three will be returning to complete the full A Level next year.
August 2007
Lambeth College’s AS and A Level students have been celebrating their exam success again this year after putting in months and months of hard work, revision and nervous waiting.
After queuing patiently for their result slips, students finally got to know if they’d achieved the marks needed to get into university. And there were some very nice surprises in store as envelopes were tore open.
Principal Richard Chambers was on hand to study the results tables and said: “I’m really pleased with our students’ results and proud of them because they have worked so hard. These are demanding courses and the majority of students will want to go to university now and, judging by the pass rate, I think most of them will. I’m really proud of the teachers too and grateful to them for all their hard work and dedication.”
Meet some of the many students who got the results they were hoping for…
Elijah Rhone, 19, couldn’t stop smiling after discovering he’d got an A and two Bs in his Biology, Chemistry and Psychology A Level exams. He was off to celebrate with family and friends now that he has made it into Kings College London to study Medicine. He said: “I’ve finally made it over the first big hurdle to becoming a doctor. I’ve put so much into this and I’m just so happy right now.”
Danielle Spiers, 20, got straight As in her History, Law and Business AS Level exams. She couldn’t wait to call her mum and tell her the great news. Danielle had more reasons to be nervous than many other students. She will be taking part in a ground breaking partnership between Lambeth College and the international property portfolio company Cushman and Wakefield. Once she has successfully completed her A levels, Cushman and Wakefield will sponsor her through university and into a job with the company. Danielle needs to score highly in her exams - so far so good. Danielle said: “I can finally breath again. I’m relieved to have done so well in all of my subjects and it means I will have more confidence in myself to do well next year and into university. I’ve had to combine my studying with bringing up my two-year old son. I want to make him proud of me.”
Rashidat Lawar, 19, received Ds in her Sociology, Psychology and Media A Levels. Though disappointed with the grades, she has got a place at the University of East London to study Journalism with Creative Writing. She said: “I came to Lambeth College to study for my GCSEs and stayed to do my A Levels too, once I discovered how much I enjoyed learning. My teachers were fantastic and have always inspired me. Now I look forward to doing my degree course and then I hope to work towards launching my own children’s magazine one day.”
Kunmi Aboderin, 18, achieved an A and two Bs in Law, Psychology and Sociology and now plans to pursue a career in Law. Kunmi said: “I’d like to thank my teachers very much for helping me through the last two years. A Levels are very hard qualifications to get. It requires many hours of extra work each week and you need to dedicate yourself to studying.”
Doyinsola Adebanji-Kasali, 18, was overjoyed to score A, B, and C in Business, Economics and Accounting. She is now Midlands-bound to study at the University of Birmingham for a degree in Economics and Finance. Doyinsola, who plans to become a financial adviser, said: “A whole world of opportunities has opened up for me now that I’ve got these results. Just a year ago I considered leaving the course because I couldn’t cope. My brilliant teacher Angela wouldn’t let me give it up and helped me through a bad patch. I am so grateful to her right now.”
