A Letter to the Editor
January 2007
The Chief: Ex-Lambeth College student Dominic Ponsford is the new Editor of the Press Gazette
Sir: I’d like to bring to your attention a remarkable achievement by one of Lambeth College’s ex-Journalism students. Since he completed his Pre-entry Newspaper Journalism (NCTJ) course in 1998, Dominic Ponsford has risen through the ranks, starting out as District Reporter for the Battle Observer in Hastings, then Senior Reporter and Features Writer on the Swindon Evening Advertiser, followed by jobs as Chief Reporter, Senior News Editor and Deputy Editor at the Press Gazette. Dominic has now, following the Press Gazette’s take-over by Wilmington Media, been chosen as its new Editor.
Dominic was attracted to Journalism because he wanted a career where he could make a difference. He said: “I wanted a job where I could be creative and work entirely on my own initiative. Journalism does that. It can be very exciting. Lambeth College got me started and gave me the tools essential to get a job in journalism. The course they offer gives you a good foundation in media law, Teeline shorthand and public affairs. All of this was essential when I got my first job in the industry and has remained useful throughout my career.”
The Press Gazette is a weekly newspaper catering exclusively for Journalists. Dominic has ambitions to take the publication forward and to develop its website.
