Wonderland

Students from Lambeth College’s School of Learner Support have been at the centre of much attention this month.  An exhibition of work produced by members of our Return to Learn Art, Art for Places, Pottery and Textiles courses opened at the Cooltan Art Gallery on Walworth Road on 26 June for three days.  The title of the show ‘Wonderland’ was chosen to link with a touring performance of Alice in Wonderland by performing arts students within the School.

The exhibition was the culmination of a year’s work of at least fourteen different classes and included ceramics, textiles, paintings and drawings. The private view was a lively event which attracted the artists themselves, as well as teachers and the public.

Artist Nicholas West, a student on the Art for Places course, exhibited a very vibrant mosaic at the show.  He said: “It’s great to have my work appear in such a nice gallery.  It has been such a brilliant course and seeing all the work framed, mounted and displayed in such style is the icing on the cake for me”.

Arnaut Orford, a volunteer worker at the Gallery, said:  “The pieces entered in this exhibition work so well together.  It has been a pleasure for us to stage the show for these students.”

The refreshments for the evening were prepared and served by the Bread Dough Company, made up of students from our Catering Work Project.

Tutor Helen McKeith said: “It was wonderful to see everybody enjoying themselves at the event and I’m proud of all the students and staff who have made it such a success.”
