Exclusive: Sarah Halls wins the Ted Bottomley Award for the best Newspaper Practice exam.
January 2006
Sarah Halls studied on Lambeth College’s Pre-entry Journalism course before going on to work for the South London Guardian. Recently she sat the NCE (National Certificate Examinations) set by the NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists). This is the exam trainee reporters sit in order to become senior reporters. Sarah has won the Ted Bottomley Award for best Newspaper Practice exam. The examiners said of her work: “Sarah’s grasp of the law is clear and well expressed and she approached the other questions in a logical way. Sarah also came up with lots of ideas which would result in good stories for any newspaper.”
Sarah is delighted to win the award and is full of praise for the course at Lambeth College. “My course at the College was excellent. It was extremely vocational and taught me the basics of media law, how to construct a story and the in and outs of central and local government. The course meant I could walk straight into a newsroom and know exactly what was expected of me.”
Sarah has recently been promoted to Chief Reporter at the Wandsworth Borough News.
