Fast Track's Great Results
October 2006
Lambeth College students have scored the best results in the country for the post-graduate fast-track journalism course.
Students on these fast-track courses, accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), have just 18 weeks to complete all subjects and reach the high standards needed to pass.
For the February to July, 2006 course at Lambeth College 43 per cent of students achieved passes in all seven exams to gain the full NCTJ pre-entry certificate. The subjects studied are shorthand to 100wpm, journalism, public affairs and law.
Lambeth College’s journalism course manager Wendy McClemont said: ”Lambeth College students have proved themselves once again to have the necessary drive and determination to succeed. They have been guided by an excellent and highly professional team of lecturers with a wide range of industry experience.
“We are also fortunate to have a very good working relationship with many local newspapers throughout London and surrounding counties who are pleased to offer our students work experience placements.
“These placements have proved vital in helping students to secure future full-time employment and for helping them to compile the new NCTJ portfolio of published stories and features.”
The NCTJ league tables offer a benchmarking tool for the 38 universities, colleges and commercial providers running NCTJ accredited courses. Courses vary in length with the 18-week course being the shortest and most intensive.
