Asmahan Alkarjosi is currently studying Child Care at our Clapham Centre.  However, she has a very seasoned background in the arts and media and is also building a respected portfolio of animations and cartoons.  During January her animations were used to illustrate and advertise more4's documentary series entitled ‘Iraq: The Bloody Circus’.  The three animations can currently be viewed on the Channel 4/more4 web site.  Asmahan's animations made it on to the site after she replied to a Channel 4 advert which was calling for skilled animators to produce cartoons for a series of forthcoming documentaries.  The company liked her work and commissioned her to do three pieces.

Asmahan spent four years studying English at our Brixton Centre.  She had previously worked as a presenter for the Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC) but lost her job when the channel’s headquarters moved from London to Dubai.  She found it difficult to get similar work for UK TV companies because her English language skills were not strong.  She decided to enrol at Lambeth College to improve her written and spoken English on one of our ESOL programmes.  As a broadcaster she worked on specialist children’s’ TV programs and has also worked as a teacher in the Middle East. Now she has her ambitions set on working with children using her skills to inspire creativity in children from an early age. Says Asmahan, “I love children and love working with them. I feel I have a lot of experience to offer in terms of artistic and creative development in young people”.

'Iraq: the Bloody Circus' and ‘Why the Arabs Hate the West' documentaries were broadcast on More4, Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 January 2006
