Art for Art's Sake
June 2006
Silver Jewellery hangs from the branches of a jewellery tree at the Art, Design and Media Exhibition in June.
This year’s Creative Show featured Art & Design, Silver Jewellery, Ceramics, Multimedia, Photography, Video and Media work. It took place during June at our Vauxhall Centre and demonstrates the hard work and effort shown by our talented students over the past year. Many students will soon be on their way to studying for degrees and Higher National Diplomas at university.
Creative Streak: Amanial Afowerki and his tutor Paulette Collier celebrate his success at the show.
Amanial Afowerki, 20, has just completed his BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design. He is now destined for St. Martins School of Art to study for a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design. He says: “I have always had a creative streak and this course has brought out the very best in me. I’m very proud to have got into St. Martins. It has a great reputation both local and internationally. One day I’d like to work as an advertising director in TV or the media.” His proud tutor Paulette Collier said: “Amanial has always worked very hard and shown high creativity. He thoroughly deserves his place at St. Martins.”
Student of Distinction: Karen Beltran's end of year marks reflect the great work she produces.
Another student showing great promise is Karen Beltran, 18, who is originally from Columbia. At the end of her first year on the BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art, Design and Media she has gained a distinction for her work. Karen says: “I’m not sure what I would like to specialise in yet. I would like either to be a fine artist or industrial designer. The beauty of this course is that it gives you an opportunity to experiment with all kinds of mediums.”
