To the Point: Amir Butt (The Cardinal) and Kelly Hollingworth (D'Artagnan) do battle in a carefully choreographed sword fight in 'The Three Musketeers'.

Lambeth College Performing Arts students have their own theatre company called Lambeth Universal Performers.  They have just completed a very successful tour of adaptations of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Three Musketeers’.  These young performers took their plays to the Benjamin Meaker Theatre at the Jersey Arts Centre and Jacksons Lane Community Theatre in Highgate, north London, as well as doing two public shows in the Theatre at the Clapham Centre of the College.

Alice_web_1Alice's Evidence: Harry Reynolds is Big Alice and Ramatu Kabar is the Queen of Hearts.  The playing cards are played by Jack Conie, Nicola Edwards and Rashid Serrouk in their fabulous adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic children's novel.

‘Alice in Wonderland’ was performed by students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Very experimental in theatre terms, the performance included dance, music, drama and a backdrop of dynamic visual images to support the story line.

‘The Three Musketeers’, performed by students from the BTEC First and National Diplomas, Access to Law and A Level courses, begins with a chaotic contemporary classroom scene and then follows the transformation of student Dee into musketeer D’Artagnan.  In addition to great acting, singing and dancing, the students had to learn excellent fencing skills.  They were given an intensive course in unarmed combat and swordsmanship which was lead by Rachid Sbitri of the 'True Edge' Stage Combat Company.  He said, "The students took to this so quickly.  Many of them are at the level of Drama Degree students."

One young man on work experience at Jacksons Lane Theatre was so impressed that he was going to go back to tell his school teachers that this is the sort of drama experience they should be offering.

The costumes for the show were designed and hand-made by Aya Murayama.  The productions were directed by tutors Roy Lee, Ruth Scott-Kendrick and Jane Burnett.
