Aliens On-Air

Working together: Rob Branston from ‘My Expanded Circle’ and Claire Chamberlain in the mixing room.
May 2006
Radio student Claire Chamberlain is to have her very first advertising project aired on London radio station ‘102.2 Smooth FM’ this week. The advert for a new on-line social events and networking website called ‘My Expanded Circle.com’ features two aliens planning a night out in London. They use the website to find things to do and people who have similar interests to do them with.
Rob Branston, Managing Director of My Expanded Circle, says: “I decided to ask Lambeth College’s Radio students for help in creating a simple but effective advert which would sum up the service we provide. This was then set-up for the students on the Radio BTEC National Award as a radio advertising competition. I chose Claire’s script from a shortlist of five other excellent entries. I had also previously approached an established London advertising agency for ideas but found the students’ work to be outstanding. It was very difficult to choose a winner but in the end the aliens won me over.”
Claire is understandably delighted with her first commission: “I can’t wait to hear my first advert broadcast on a real radio station,” she says. “I’ve had a lot of fun planning and creating the ad and it has given me good experience of working with real clients.”
Claire would like to work as a radio producer, producing and scripting shows preferably for a music radio station.
