A New Look for Our Centres
What it will look like: an architect's impression of our new Sixth Form Building at Clapham in 2009.
October 2006
Lambeth College is embarking on an ambitious £61 million redevelopment of its sites at Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall. The first phase is now in progress and will see the construction of a new sixth form building at the Clapham Centre, positioned at the front of the site on Clapham Common South Side.
At Clapham, construction work on the new sixth form building will start in the first half of 2007 and be complete during the 2008/09 academic year. It will provide state-of-the-art teaching accommodation in an imposing five storeyed structure that has been designed by one of the UK’s leading architectural firms, BDP. Specialist facilities will be developed for Performing Arts and Creative Studies, and there will be modern Information & Communications Technology ICT throughout the building. This forms part of an increasing focus on provision for the 16-18 year old age group at Clapham. The Clapham Centre will also see the addition of new science laboratories, greatly improved student services, extensive refurbishment and the development of a new sports hall at the rear.
Modern, flexible buildings to house our adult provision at Brixton Centre.
Exciting plans are being discussed for redevelopment at the Brixton Centre. The 1960s buildings are in need of improvement and this will require a creative solution in order to provide modern, flexible buildings within the College’s redevelopment budget. The site will particularly offer accommodation for adult courses, building on the excellent status the Centre has developed for Business and IT.
The Vauxhall Centre will naturally form the focus for technical courses, including Construction and Engineering as well as Creative Studies.
Within the next five years the Lambeth College estate will have been transformed significantly and will be able to provide both staff and students with consistently high quality and flexible accommodation across all academic programme areas.
