Success by Design
February 2005
The New Designers exhibition, held last month at London’s Business Design Centre, displayed the work of Daniela Terzieva, a past Access Art and Design student at Lambeth College. Daniela was awarded £1500 by Brintons Design (a textile company) and the opportunity to work in their design studio. The criteria for the award required that the work had to demonstrate creativity, inventiveness, vision and originality.
John Bain, Brintons design director, said: “What drew us to Daniela’s work was the outstanding use of colour, allied to the wonderful textual treatment and a clear sense of placing her work in collections. We could see that her ideas, inspired by natural themes, were both highly imaginative and exceptionally unique, and certainly lent themselves to an interior design application”.
Daniela’s ideas were inspired by a residential trip to St Ives, Cornwall during her Access course at Lambeth College and in particular the impact of the sculpture and planting in Barbara Hepworth’s garden. She and other former students gave presentations of their work to current students at the annual Access Art and Design reunion in February.
