Producing the New Radio Stars
On your radio: Andriy and Mark are making great strides in a very competitive industry.
May 2004
Andriy Kravets and Mark Augustyn, students on our BTEC National Award in Radio, are getting some really useful employment experience.
Andriy’s work placement is with the Ukranian section of the BBC World Service. He’s reading the news live and making speech packages for additional news features. He’s had loads of calls and emails from family and friends who have been listening to him live on air in the Ukraine. Andriy is very grateful for the support he’s received from everyone on the course: “I couldn’t have managed without you all. I came with no experience of radio and now I’m broadcasting on the BBC!”
Mark was appointed as a trainee/runner at Virgin Radio even before he completed the course. He says that the excellent teaching and support he receives on the course gave him the confidence and skills to apply for the job. He’s putting in very long hours these days as he’s determined, with the support of his new boss, to finish the course.
Both Andriy and Mark have benefited from being on the only dedicated, BTEC accredited, solely radio course in London. Major employers in the radio industry appreciate the fact that the course covers all aspects of radio, from commercial production to interviewing and presentation.
