FE Cup Champs Again
May 2004
Lambeth College won the Further Education College Cup on 5 May after beating a strong St Francis Xavier team (SFX) 4-3.
In a closely fought contest both teams had opportunities to take the lead but great saves form Shane Deacon and sound work by defence players lead by Toyin Fagbayi kept SFX at bay.
With SFX leading 1-0 at half time, Emmanuel Minsende equalised. SFX quickly restored their lead but Poju Adegoke brought the scores level to 2-2. Jobe Patterson came on at half time to give Lambeth a 3-2 lead but SFX, with their slick play, raised their game to bring the score level.
With the game destined to go into extra time, Jobe Patterson latched on to a through ball from Delando Smith to score his second goal and clinched the cup for Lambeth College.
This is an immense achievement as most colleges in the league receive support and sponsorship from professional clubs. The Lambeth College players have shown that drive, courage and determination will bring you success when you believe in your abilities. The team has not been beaten since 5 November. They just missed out on achieving a league & cup double, finishing runners up in the league by one point.
