Inspiration: Joy Silva and Paul Chaplin sing and talk of their success stories.  Trevor Gordon explains separating personal and business life.

May 2004

On 17 May an Empowerment Conference for our level 3 Business Studies students took place at the Oval Banqueting Suite.

One of the speakers was a past student, Joy Silva.  Joy completed the AAT Intermediate Accounting course in 2002 and went on to Kingston University where she is currently pursuing a BA degree in Business Management.  Joy is also a singer and songwriter.  Along with her band Fresco’s, she is negotiating a deal with Universal Records and already has a distribution contract with Interscope.  Joy and Paul Chaplin, another member of the band, played for the students and told them about her success story.

Other speakers will include Jennifer James, Director of the Spirit Arts Academy; Colin Rutt, Business Consultant from the Portobello Business Centre; and Trevor Gordon, an Education Management Consultant.

The aims of the conference were to:

* Motivate students to complete their education and set career/personal goals
* Provide them with information about how to progress successfully into employment or on to higher education
* Inspire them by letting them hear first hand from guest speakers from industry talking about their career growth
