Art for Places is part of the Return to Learning Programme. The class is about designing and creating work for specific places. So far the students have completed three projects:
• an installation to commemorate the closure of the Henry Thornton Centre
• banners for the college foyer on World Mental Health Day
• mosaics for one of the planters at the Clapham Centre
All these projects were designed and made by the class working together. It's an exciting class because it's about making things happen! We make an impact on our environment instead of it always being the other way round. This is a very empowering process for people living with and recovering from mental health problems. Students learn a range of practical skills as well as design and communication. We are looking to accredit this course in the future.
