Nelson's a real BBC Talent

Nelson

November 2003

Nelson Kumah, who recently completed his studies at the Vauxhall Centre of Lambeth College, is one of the two overall winners of the 2003 BBC Talent Sports Reporter Scheme.

Nelson and the other finalist, Robin Stewart, were chosen from 3000 entries. The BBC will offer both winners nine month contracts as trainee BBC sports reporters across TV, radio and online. Both will be given the opportunity to work with BBC Sport and one of them will join the BBC Olympic reporting team for Athens 2004.

Nelson, age 28, learnt his skills as a student on the BTEC National Award in Radio Production at Lambeth College. He graduated from the course in July 2003 with a distinction. While on the course Nelson secured work experience at Virgin Radio and, on completing his qualification, was offered a post as production assistant on the Saturday Rock 'n' Roll Football programme - a great job for someone passionate about football! Nelson has also produced and presented his own show on Life FM 101.4.

Hearing of his success Nelson said: "I was really surprised when I won but all my hard work over the past year has paid off".
