NUS Journalism Award

December 2003
Andy Crick, a journalism student taking the Fast-track NCTJ qualification at Lambeth College, was overjoyed when he attended the recent NUS Journalism Awards 2003 ceremony. The awards, sponsored by the Daily Mirror, are for the best work written by students in university publications over the last academic year.
Andy was announced as runner-up in the ‘Best Travel journalist’ category. This was for articles he had written on cheap city breaks he’d been on, including Berne and Prague. Westworld, the university publication that he wrote for, was also winner in the ‘Best Design’ category and runner-up for ‘Best Magazine’.
The annual ceremony, held in the Daily Mirror offices in the Canary Wharf Tower in Docklands, aims to raise the profile of student journalism and provide a stepping stone for young writers to make their mark in a very competitive field.
On hearing the news Andy said: “To receive recognition for anything is always welcome, but when you are acknowledged for doing something you love and want to make a career out of, it is even sweeter. This has given me extra confidence as I look to embark on a career as a print journalist.”
