Lambeth College’s Performing Arts school has gone from strength to strength and advanced in awesome fashion recently. From its rather humble beginnings back in the mid 1990’s it has emerged triumphantly into a flagship area for the College. Young people joining us this year will walk into a brand new £20 million Sixth Form Centre with 160-seat theatre, dance studio and state-of-the-art performing arts facilities. These modern new furnishings have been added to the building because of our commitment and confidence in this subject, our inspirational tutors and the students who work so hard to be the best.

The entertainment industry affects our lives in a huge way. From early years to old age we all depend on actors and actresses, singers, dancers, comedians and those working behind the scenes as directors, scriptwriters and set designers to help us escape the humdrum realities of life. With the explosion in the number of digital TV channels, the internet, DVDs, corporate videos and advertising, live theatre and club entertainment there has never been such a demand for talented professionals to work in the business.

At Lambeth College we have experienced and dedicated tutors and technical staff to get you started in your career. You will have the opportunity to get involved in writing and devising theatrical productions, creating costumes and set designs, technical support, performing to a live audience or taking part in promoting your production to the general public.

Though our courses are very practical-based you will also receive a good grounding in the theoretical background of the subject and learn the historical contexts of your performances. You will be expected to study some classical works from yesteryear and the work of famous modern and historical playwrights.

Each year students from various performing arts courses come together to stage a variety of drama, music and dance performances in front of audiences made up from fellow students and the general public. You will also form a theatre company and plan a tour of your Theatre-In-Education production for primary-aged school children. This project has proved to be a very popular project amongst our students and one that tests their range of acting skills.

Our tutors have years of experience in encouraging students to release their raw talent and put it to good use. This combined with a range of great facilities and resources, excellent libraries and study centres and many like-minded fellow students to work alongside, will give you a great opportunity to shine.

Performing Arts is undoubtedly a fun subject but also a very serious one. If you want to succeed in show business you have to take it seriously and be prepared to put in lots of hard work. Our courses range from level 1 to level 3 and offer you a route into higher education and/or employment.
