This course is for English teachers who are in a full teaching role who wish to apply for QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) status.
Content:
- The course helps teacher trainees to:
- Adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of English teaching
- Reflect on their own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills and areas for development
- Identify principles of English learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation
- Develop communication and interpersonal skills
- Develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities as a English teacher.
This is a 45-credit qualification consisting of 2 modules:
- Module 1 (30 credits at levels 4 and 5) - Approaches to English learning and teaching
- Module 2 (15 credits at level 5) - Theories and frameworks for English learning and teaching

After this course: Eligibility to apply for QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) status awarded by the IfL or progression to further study.
This course is appropriate for English teachers who are in a full teaching role in Further Education (FE) and the wider lifelong learning sector (e.g. prison service, adult and community learning, etc.).
Teacher trainees should hold an appropriate teaching qualification to teach in FE and be qualified to Level 3 in English, or equivalent in the initial College assessment.
